Welcome and thank you for your interest in piloting the EL Education K-8 Language Arts Curriculum Modules!
Overview
Who?
This is a resource for teachers and leaders who have decided to independently pilot our Language Arts Curriculum Modules. If you’re interested in a guided pilot, contact us to learn more about aligned coaching, strategic planning, and more support for achieving strong results.
What?
This is an easy step-by-step guide to internalizing and implementing our Module lessons with success.
Why?
By implementing the standards-aligned EL Education Language Arts curriculum, you are offering your students access to rich, authentic, complex text and content-based literacy–a launchpad for a lifetime love of learning–validated by research results and case studies from diverse districts.
How?
Lean into the learning curve! Remember to give yourself grace as you try a new, rigorous curriculum.
Getting Started
Step 2: Set the Stage
Create a free account on our curriculum website.
Scroll down to find your grade level on the homepage to access modules and lesson plans.
If you are using print materials instead, find your Module Teacher Guide and Supporting Materials books.
Grab a copy of Your Curriculum Companion for answers to your questions.
Step 3: Prepare to Teach
Use the Year Task Card to guide you through a bird’s eye view.
Unpack your grade level curriculum using the Map, Plan and Chart.
Unpack a Module: Use the Module Task Card to see how Module 1 will unfold over the next 8-9 weeks. Watch the Module Lesson screencasts.
Unpack a Unit: Use the Unit Task Card to take a deeper dive into the 3 units of the Module. Access the Units from your grade level page for Module 1.
Test Drive an Assessment: Use the Assessments Task Card to preview your Module’s assessments and determine any scaffolds/supports that may be needed for students.
Unpack a Lesson: Now you’re ready to use the Lesson Task Card to unpack your first lesson! As you unpack, make sure to pay attention to your learning targets and essential questions.
Step 4: Teach!
A classroom implementing the EL Education curriculum will look and sound like:
Learning targets posted and unpacked
Classroom protocols in action
Checks for understanding
Formative assessment checklists
Anchor charts posted and referenced
More student talk than teacher talk (except for read-alouds)
Conversation Cues
Text is centered as the expert
